string

next week marks the beginning of nashville fashion week. i covered the runway shows last year, and you can view all of the nfw 2011 posts by clicking here and scrolling through. i'm really looking forward to this year, as shows will include g-star raw, katharine kidd, and the versace collection. i'll even get a chance to see tim gunn for the second time in the last year. so, be sure to check back here next week for in-depth reviews and my own photos from the shows. i also encourage everyone to buy a ticket on the nashville fashion week website and come get involved!

i'm sure you noticed the new ad i've put up on the right sidebar. it is to help promote another event that is taking place next week, and i'm really looking forward to stopping by for a night of charity, music, and style.
as one of free people's tennessee affiliates, i am more than excited to share this event with you all: the free people heart strings tour for music for a cure. free people and rickenbacker have teamed up to create five guitars in support of music for a cure, a non-profit organization that brings the power of music to children who are critically ill or facing mental or emotional challenges. each guitar has been donated by rickenbacker and hand-decorated by a free people artist. from march 15 to april 3, these guitars are touring through austin, nashville, and new york city. if you're in the nashville area, the guitars will be on display from march 19 to march 23 at the free people location in green hills. learn more information by clicking here and head to charity buzz to bid on these beauties, as all proceeds go to music for a cure.
the showcase event for this awesome endeavor will take place on march 22, from 5pm to 8pm and will feature artists madison cain and chelsea lankes, with special guest jonathan cain from journey. wine and refreshments will be served, and i'll be there early in the night before the nfw runway shows to give my support to such a great cause.

thank you so much for all the kind emails and supportive comments about the beginning of a new sponsorship with poetrie. i shared the first of more reviews to come with a photo shoot and video of the aurora dress. click here to see the post, and click here to see the video! i'm looking forward to another 12 months of exciting new season pieces!
oh, and be sure to check out my short interview with poetrie on their blog by clicking here.

in other news, my last week was spent consumed with relaxing. although things never turn out to be quite what you expect, i travelled east with a few of my closest friends to conquer some snow on top of a board and take ourselves severely close to the edge of cliffs. ski lifts and broken butts, sprained thumbs and red noses, stretched muscles and cold beer, french fries and new friends. spring break is always eventful and it never feels right unless i have the cupcake by my side, thank goodness for her. cataloochee ski resort in north carolina struggled to keep the snow beneath our boards while we struggled to stay upright, both from lack of balance, lack of sleep, and lack of awareness. it's hard to not fall face first in the snow when you're laughing so hard. we found ourselves slightly delirious, hiking through rock creek national park, walking into mirrors, laughing at the lorax, and falling in parking lots. it was kind of one of those weeks where everyone talks at the same time, everyone coughs and laughs on top of each other, and everyone's kind of okay with that. cheers to true friends. more from me soon enough, but i've got to go whip my butt into shape. it'll thank me later.

aurora, poetrie

POETRIE
a huge thank you to the wonderful people at Poetrie for building my excitement for the spring season. the aurora dress is basically my dream come true. with the blush hues and full skirt, i'm in love. this piece is by Gracia, and despite my desire to run through dirty fields and flail my arms like a flower child, the aurora dress is meant to be cherished and adored. the floral accent on the belt brings the whole look together, binding the fairytale and the ethereal in harmony. also, Poetrie is a new sponsor of COSMICaroline! so, click on the Poetrie ad on the right sidebar and take a look around at all the wonderful pieces available.

the following is the spring season video for Poetrie.com and the aurora dress. filmed by the porte-plume. also a huge thank you to fire finch for being so welcoming.
these videos will become a seasonal item for the next year, thanks to Poetrie.com!

in other news, i've been huddling for safety with the porte-plume and pb&j, cooking up a shrimp dinner with the rebel to the sounds of sam cooke and outkast, and singing at an extremely thrown together clorange show at the end. currently, i'm in an eastern land with the cupcake, the old soul, and friends to conquer the slopes and bruise butts. it's always nice to get a spring break, run away from the troubles, and relax for a minute. our relaxing has consisted of twisted thumbs, tired shoulders, snow up noses, and kickboxing classes. i can barely move, but i couldn't be happier about it. here's to the slopes that conquer you, instead of the other way around. more from me soon enough.

also, check out the Poetrie blog for a COSMICaroline interview and "Fashionista of the Month" showcase!

the following is a wonderful, wonderful song. i went searching for a video and found this bit from a random 2010 festival that seems to fit the bill. enjoy.
gary clark jr. has a groove that i deem necessary.

what i have been up to? nothing too interesting. it's been a whole lot of school, a bunch of looking ahead, a little freaking out, a teensy more celebrating, and entirely too much work. just a little longer, and i'll be done. this next week will definitely be a much-needed break. sometimes when you have a week filled with people turning you down, you end the week searching for new doors to be opened. that's what has happened these past few days, but despite being a little discouraged, i've wiped the grass off my behind, pulled my hair back, and searched in different directions. i won't be giving up anytime soon. sometimes, that little extra is all the extra you need. right now, i've got the motivation to work and hunt and scour and study until my little limbs fall off and my brain rejects me. that's what it's going to take, and i know that. i'm willing to keep putting in the work. i'm cool with that. here's to an end in sight. oh, a congratulations to the cupcake for taking a big step towards bigger and better things.
